BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul met with Luxembourg Ambassador Patrick Hemmer at Government House on August 5 during the ambassador’s farewell visit, discussing economic cooperation, technology, sustainable development, and international affairs. The talks also involved the Thailand-European Union Free Trade Agreement and Thailand’s bid to join the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Anutin said the government is working to conclude negotiations on the Thailand-EU Free Trade Agreement by 2026 and secure OECD membership by 2028. The premier noted that both goals would help align Thailand’s economic and governance standards with international practices.
Ambassador Hemmer expressed Luxembourg’s support for both the Thailand-EU Free Trade Agreement and Thailand’s OECD accession process. He also identified financial services and capital markets as areas for closer cooperation between the two countries. Hemmer also confirmed Luxembourg’s participation in the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Annual Meetings, which Thailand will host later this year. During the event, the finance ministries of Thailand and Luxembourg are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in financial services and financial technology. (NNT)
