MAE HONG SON, Sept 15- A landslide triggered by heavy overnight rain has blocked a road in Mae Hong Son’s Sop Moei district, suspending road travel Saturday morning, while forest run-off has severely damaged three villages in Lampang.

Overnight incessant heavy rain caused soil on the mountainside to slide across the Mae Sariang-Chiang Mai highway in Moei district and vehicles cannot use the road, Papong subdistrict official La Boonyuang said.

Responding to the ongoing situation, Mr La coordinated with government agencies to clear and reopen the blocked road and let road traffic resume as normal.

In Lampang, another northern province, forest run-off due to heavy downpours hit the reservoir and overflowed into three villages, affecting about 100 households.

Currently, Sermsak Khiewkham, Ton Thong Chai subdistrict municipality chied, instructed officials to speed up assisting affected villagers and to keep monitoring the situation as  the water level continued rising.
