From Sukhothai’s historic candlelight ceremonies and Chiang Mai’s Yi Peng lanterns to Pattaya-area celebrations and Phuket’s seaside festivities, Thailand prepares for a nationwide festival of light on 24 November.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) presents a nationwide calendar of Loi Krathong 2026 celebrations, featuring riverside ceremonies, illuminated historical landmarks and regional traditions. Observed on the full moon of the twelfth Thai lunar month, the festival centres on floating decorated krathongs as an expression of gratitude and respect for water. This year, the full moon falls on 24 November, with celebrations taking place on different dates across the country.

From Sukhothai’s historic setting and Tak’s floating krathong processions to Chiang Mai’s Yi Peng lanterns and Phuket’s seaside festivities, the programme showcases Thailand’s cultural diversity. It also aligns with TAT’s 2027 Festival Economy direction, promoting year-round tourism under “365 Days of Celebration”.
