BANGKOK, Thailand – The presentation of Italy’s Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Merit to Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya celebrates the enduring connection between art, culture, and international friendship. Italian President Sergio Mattarella conferred the prestigious distinction on October 20, recognizing Her Royal Highness’s contributions to promoting Italian fashion, design, and traditional craftsmanship internationally.

Through Her Royal Highness’s creative work, Italian artistic traditions have found new expression in contemporary fashion and design. Her appreciation of traditional techniques, materials, and artisanal expertise demonstrates how cultural heritage can inspire modern creativity while preserving the craftsmanship that gives it meaning. The occasion also recalls a historic royal connection: in 1960, Italian President Giovanni Gronchi conferred the same class of decoration upon His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great.

The recognition also celebrates the enduring friendship between Thailand and Italy, reminding us that diplomacy extends beyond politics and economics, with art and culture offering equally meaningful ways to connect nations. Her Royal Highness’s achievements demonstrate how creativity and mutual respect can preserve traditions, deepen cultural understanding, and inspire future generations. (NNT)
