BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun has met with Urmila Venugopalan, president for Asia-Pacific at the Motion Picture Association (MPA), to discuss expanding investment in Thailand’s film industry. Thailand has introduced incentives for international film productions, including a competitive cash rebate program, to attract major global productions. According to the Department of Tourism, the United States ranked first in both the number of projects and total investment value among foreign productions filmed in Thailand during the first half of 2026.
Major feature films and high-profile series, including “The Creator,” “Meg 2,” “Jurassic World Rebirth,” “The White Lotus,” and “Alien: Earth,” continue to generate substantial revenue for the country. The discussions also involved measures to increase the long-term economic benefits of film production. Highlighting the rapid growth of the character and content industry, the MPA expressed its support for expanding Thailand’s film and content sectors by leveraging opportunities in creative content and gaming. The Thai government, in return, reaffirmed its backing for enhancing tax incentives, streamlining filming procedures, and developing local talent to further establish the country as a world-class filming destination.
