BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) has reported that 5,315 people visited 37 recreational forests managed by the Royal Forest Department during the holiday celebrating His Majesty the King’s Birthday on July 28. To celebrate the auspicious occasion, MNRE Minister Suchart Chomklin said entrance fees were waived at seven recreational forests that normally charge admission, allowing more people to enjoy the sites during the holiday while promoting environmental conservation.
The most visited destinations were Bok Luek Recreational Forest in Ubon Ratchathani, Hin Sam Wan (Three Whale Rock) Recreational Forest in Bueng Kan, Khao Ito Waterfall Recreational Forest in Prachin Buri. Other popular sites included Aiyoeweng Sea of Mist in Yala, Khao Soon in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Bo Sip Song in Phayao, and Archosaur Footprint Site in Phetchabun. The ministry said conservation tourism gives visitors opportunities to learn about natural ecosystems while supporting local communities through spending on local products and services. It added that recreational forests will continue to be managed to balance public access with environmental protection and the sustainable use of natural resources. (NNT)
