SONGKHLA, Thailand – The Fine Arts Department has organized a nighttime cultural tourism event at the Songkhla National Museum titled “Visiting Samila, Experience Songkhla at Nighttime”, using cultural assets to support the local economy.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Culture Prasop Riangngoen at the Songkhla National Museum in Mueang Songkhla. He noted that this project is part of the Fine Arts Department’s ongoing initiative to promote nighttime visits to historical sites and museums in Bangkok and other regions.

The Songkhla event aims to support the province’s economic recovery after recent flooding in Hat Yai District and parts of Mueang Songkhla. The program allows visitors to appreciate the museum’s architecture at night, learn about local history, and engage with Thai cultural traditions through various arts and cultural activities. This initiative promotes cultural tourism and offers a unique travel experience.

Since late last year, the Fine Arts Department has expanded nighttime cultural tourism activities nationwide, attracting strong interest from Thai and international visitors. Nighttime openings, along with performances and creative programs developed with educational institutions, public agencies, and private-sector partners, have encouraged visitors to spend more time locally and to increase their spending. This approach has broadened income distribution and demonstrated the economic impact of culture-led development.

The Songkhla National Museum Night Tour included nighttime access to the museum, cultural performances, stargazing, the Mobile Thai Costume Exhibition from the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles, creative markets, and community-led activities from Songkhla Province.

For those unable to attend the event, the museum plans to host another nighttime program again in August 2026. (NNT)
