
BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavachira is expediting the selection process for the new chair of the Bank of Thailand’s board, aiming to submit the nominee’s name by February 7.
Pichai revealed that the Ministry of Finance is in the process of approaching suitable candidates for the position. The nomination will be submitted as scheduled. The chair of the selection committee, currently led by Sathit Limpongpan, a former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, may also be reappointed.
Pichai acknowledged that the approached candidates are prominent figures familiar to the public, but their consent is required before the official nomination. Regarding speculation about Dr. Supavud Saicheua, Chair of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC), being a potential nominee, Pichai stated that confirmation from the individual is still pending.
