Following a death at a Nakhon Pathom clinic, authorities are moving to tighten oversight, introduce standardized contracts, and close regulatory loopholes, urging consumers to verify licenses and keep records as investigations continue.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Consumer protection authorities are tightening oversight of aesthetic clinics following a fatal case that has raised concerns about safety standards and regulatory gaps.

Supamas Isarabhakdi, minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office overseeing the Office of the Consumer Protection Board, has ordered an investigation into the incident at a clinic in Nakhon Pathom. Authorities are reviewing business practices and legal frameworks, including whether aesthetic operators should be classified as contract-controlled entities to ensure clearer and fairer service terms.

The review includes developing standardized contracts to define providers’ rights and responsibilities, reduce disputes, and support legal action in cases involving negligence or substandard care. Officials are also coordinating with the Ministry of Public Health and the Medical Council to clarify oversight roles and address overlaps between existing laws, with plans to establish a more streamlined regulatory system.

Authorities are advising the public to verify clinic licenses, check medical credentials, and retain documents such as receipts and treatment records. Complaints can be filed through the consumer protection hotline or mobile application, while investigations continue to determine accountability and strengthen safeguards across the sector.
