EOD teams safely destroyed a BM-21 rocket warhead buried near a gas station in Sisaket’s Kantharalak district, following a deadly Cambodian rocket attack that killed eight civilians in July. A one-kilometer safety zone was enforced during the operation to protect residents and reporters.

SISAKET, Thailand – Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams successfully destroyed a high-explosive warhead from a BM-21 rocket embedded in the road near a PTT gas station in Kantharalak district, Sisaket province. This area was previously targeted in a Cambodian rocket attack.

Since 2:00 PM today, EOD specialists began preparations to neutralize the buried explosive located on the road between Ban Nam Yen and Ban Phue, heading toward Khao Phra Wihan. The warhead was fired by Cambodian forces into a civilian area and buried less than one kilometer from the Ban Phue PTT gas station. This attack on July 24 also involved a rocket strike on a convenience store inside the gas station, resulting in eight civilian deaths.

Authorities secured the site by building sandbag bunkers around the explosive. The operation involved personnel from the Sisaket Provincial Police, the 22nd Border Patrol Police from Ubon Ratchathani, and the National Mine Action Center under the Thai Military Command (TMAC).

For safety reasons, a one-kilometer radius around the bomb site was cordoned off, with roads closed to traffic and residents evacuated. Media personnel covering the operation were also kept at a safe distance. Ambulances were on standby throughout the disposal process to respond to any emergencies.

The EOD team completed the disposal operation successfully, ensuring the safety of the local community. (TNA)
