PATHUM THANI, Thailand — Police are searching for the driver of a white sedan involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed an elderly cyclist in the early hours of May 3 in Thanyaburi district.
The incident occurred around 4 a.m. on Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road 68, in front of the Baan Fah Green Park housing estate in Bueng Yitho subdistrict. According to witnesses, a male cyclist, estimated to be between 65 and 70 years old, was riding along the left lane when he was struck from behind by a white sedan travelling in the same lane at speed.
The impact sent the cyclist and his bicycle crashing onto the road. However, the driver of the sedan did not stop to assist and instead fled the scene immediately.
Emergency responders from a local rescue foundation arrived shortly after receiving the alert. They found the victim still breathing and attempted CPR for more than 30 minutes, but he later succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Nearby, responders found a red bicycle, broken rubber ties from a basket, and scattered food items believed to be snacks the victim was carrying. No identification documents were found on his body, only a waist pouch containing cash.
A security guard at the housing estate said he heard the crash and rushed outside, witnessing the car striking the bicycle before speeding away. He immediately contacted police and rescue teams.
Thanyaburi police are now reviewing CCTV footage and tracing the escape route of the suspect vehicle to identify and locate the driver. Authorities are also working to confirm the victim’s identity and contact his relatives.
The body has been sent for forensic examination to determine further details surrounding the cause of death, while investigations into the hit-and-run remain ongoing. (TNA)
