Pol. Gen. Permpoon urges teachers to spark a love for learning, sharpen critical thinking like a well-honed blade, and close learning gaps with continuous self-improvement.

NAKHON PHANOM, Thailand – Minister of Education Pol. Gen. Permpoon Chidchob has visited Nakhon Phanom Wittayakhom School to assess the implementation of education policies across Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, and Mukdahan provinces, with a focus on strengthening human resource development in the region.

Reports from local education agencies indicated progress in several areas, including reducing student dropout rates, addressing drug-related issues among students, and improving educational standards to meet international benchmarks such as the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA). The minister commended the strong collaboration among local agencies and urged continued application of national education strategies.

During the visit, Pol. Gen. Permpoon stressed the importance of teachers inspiring a passion for learning and continuously improving their skills. He encouraged educators to identify and address individual learning gaps, promoting critical thinking by likening the process to sharpening a blade to maintain its effectiveness.

The visit also addressed issues aligned with Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s nationwide policies, including efforts to curb drug use in schools. Authorities reported that 188 students were found using e-cigarettes, a relatively low figure compared to urban areas. Budget proposals for the restoration of schools damaged by natural disasters were also prepared for Cabinet consideration.

Regarding teaching and learning materials, the Ministry of Education has completed drafting procurement terms and is conducting a public hearing to ensure transparency and gather feedback. The measures are expected to help enhance learning resources for students and teachers throughout the region. (NNT)
