BANGKOK, 26 December 2014  The Election Commission (EC) has decided to resume the provision of financial support for political parties; however, only activities organized before May 22, 2014 will be covered.

The Election Commission has allowed the Fund for the Development of Political Parties to grant financial aid to political parties which ran their campaigns before May 22. The cash to be handed out will come from the previously approved budget. Political parties holding activities after May 22, on the other hand, are ineligible for any financial support.

The EC said that it had already issued its announcement to all party leaders involved.

Prior to the announcement, election commissioners convened last week to discuss the operational plan of the Fund for the Development of Political Parties and concluded on this matter.

The role of the Fund for the Development of Political Parties came to a halt, following the National Council for Peace and Order’s announcement on June 7, 2014, which stipulated the suspension of the fund’s support for political parties temporarily in hopes of restoring peace and order after the military takeover.
