Bangkok – Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister for Legal Affairs has spoken in an attempt to allay public concerns about the draft cyber security law, saying it is yet to be finalized.

Responding to worries that the draft Cyber Security Act would be rushed through, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam pointed out that, in compliance with Section 77 of the Constitution, the government is obligated to conduct a public hearing on any new legislation at every step, including before the matter is presented to the Cabinet.

The deputy premier asked the Thai people to understand that holding public forums means the bill is still open to revisions and that no conclusions have been reached. Nonetheless, he said public comment on the lawmaking process is always welcome.
