Defense Minister highlights new border security strategy in Nong Khai

Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Adul Boonthamcharoen inspected security operations in Nong Khai, urging greater readiness, modern technology, and closer coordination to combat evolving cross-border threats.

NONG KHAI, Thailand – Minister of Defense Lieutenant General Adul Boonthamcharoen visited Nong Khai province on July 17, 2026, to inspect border security forces and emphasize readiness against emerging security threats. During his visit to Sri Chiang Mai district, the Defense Minister reviewed operations by the Surasakmontri Force and the Mekong Riverine Unit in Nong Khai Zone. He received briefings from local security and administrative agencies, conducted a water patrol near Don Ching Chu, and delivered supplies to support deployed personnel. The feedback collected will inform improvements to border defense strategies.


The Minister observed that national security challenges now include non-traditional threats such as online syndicates, illegal immigration, illicit financial networks, and transnational crime, which require advanced countermeasures. He emphasized the need for modern technology for security personnel and stronger interagency collaboration. To support these efforts, the Defense Minister highlighted the new Border Security Integration Center, which will unify and expedite regional security operations. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving personnel welfare and providing essential military equipment, ensuring forces remain capable of protecting national sovereignty and addressing modern transnational threats.
