CHIANG MAI, Thailand – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), in collaboration with Chiang Mai Province, officially launched the Chiang Mai Night Market at San Kamphaeng Walking Street to promote nighttime tourism through creative walking streets that integrate culture, arts, light installations, and digital technology.
The opening ceremony was co-presided over by Chiang Mai Deputy Governor Siwakon Buapong and TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool at Khuang San Kamphaeng. The event invites visitors to experience Chiang Mai’s nighttime charm with large-scale light installations, mapping displays, music, cultural performances, and community-based activities.
The Deputy Governor stated that the event is an important part to drive provincial tourism by building on Chiang Mai’s cultural assets and handicraft heritage, transforming them into contemporary creative experiences. The initiative supports Chiang Mai’s vision as a city of wellness, lifestyle, and festivals, in line with the concepts of “Value is the New Volume” and “12 Months, 12 Festivals”, aimed at enhancing tourism image, generating income, and distributing benefits sustainably to local communities.
The TAT Governor said the event is part of TAT’s event marketing strategy to elevate walking streets from local markets to international creative walking streets. Activities at San Kamphaeng are presented under the concept “San Kamphaeng Remix: Chiang Mai Remake”, highlighting Lanna identity while introducing modern artistic interpretation through 10 landmark light installations. Similar creative showcases are also featured at Tha Phae Walking Street.
TAT expects more than 100,000 visitors across both locations, generating at least 186 million baht in tourism revenue. The event runs every Saturday at San Kamphaeng Walking Street and every Sunday at Tha Phae Walking Street from January 17 to March 1, 2026, between 4 and 10 P.M., with free admission and shuttle services.
