PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya Tourist Police have stepped up security measures with drone patrols and increased foot patrols as around 5,000 US Navy personnel visit the city from Sept. 2–6. Tourist police said drones are being deployed over Pattaya Beach, Walking Street and Bali Hai Pier to monitor activity and help prevent incidents during the busy port visit. The drones are also equipped with a two-language public-address system, allowing officers to issue announcements to Thai and foreign tourists when necessary.
Additional foot patrols have been deployed inside Walking Street in South Pattaya, with officers increasing the frequency of their patrols throughout the area. Tourist police are also coordinating with business operators and their staff, asking them to immediately notify nearby officers if they observe suspicious activity or an incident requiring assistance. The measures are intended to strengthen security for both tourists and US military personnel while thousands of sailors and Marines spend their shore leave in Pattaya following the arrival of the USS Abraham Lincoln at Laem Chabang.
