CHIANG MAI – Chiang Mai Airport has instructed its ground staff to be on the lookout for floating lanterns and remove any that have found their way to the tarmac.

Chiang Mai International Airport has warned its staff to watch for floating lanterns that fall in and around the airport during the Loy Krathong Festival. Clean-up crews will be deployed around the clock from November 20.

Grounds inspections will be stepped up from four times per day to 10 times per day, to ensure that the airport’s apron and runways remain clear of obstructions.

During last year’s Loy Krathong Festival, the airport recorded 142 floating lanterns on its premises, and expects similar numbers during this year’s celebrations.
