Emergency responders attend to injured passengers after a factory shuttle bus overturned on the Asian Highway in Ayutthaya.

AYUTTHAYA, Thailand – A factory shuttle bus transporting workers from the Rojana Industrial Estate overturned after crashing into a bridge barrier on the Asian Highway inbound to Bangkok on May 27, leaving 13 people injured and causing major traffic congestion. Police from Bang Pa-in Station were alerted to the accident at a bridge section near Khlong Sai, kilometre marker 5 in Khlong Chik subdistrict. Emergency responders, including highway police, the Department of Highways, and Ayutthaya rescue volunteers, rushed to the scene.

At the site, a yellow-plate employee shuttle bus belonging to a company in the Rojana Industrial Estate was found overturned across all three lanes of traffic. A total of 13 people were injured, including 11 women, 2 men, and the driver. Most sustained minor injuries such as abrasions and muscle strains and were transported to nearby hospitals. The front section of the bus was heavily damaged, indicating it first struck the right-side bridge barrier before flipping onto its side and blocking the roadway.

The driver, a 62-year-old man, told police that the vehicle lost control while ascending the bridge after picking up workers from the industrial estate. He attempted to stabilize the bus but was unable to prevent it from crashing. The accident caused traffic delays stretching over 5 kilometres toward Bangkok. Authorities deployed heavy tow trucks to remove the bus, restoring normal traffic flow after approximately one hour.

The wrecked bus lies across all three lanes after striking a bridge barrier near Khlong Sai, blocking traffic for hours.

Rescue teams and highway police work to clear the overturned vehicle as traffic builds up more than 5 kilometres toward Bangkok.
