BURIRAM, Thailand – Schools along the Thai-Cambodian border reopened on Monday with emergency bunker drills, following a month-long closure caused by border clashes.
All 34 schools in Buriram’s Lahan Sai district resumed classes with a 90% attendance rate. Despite a formal ceasefire, students practiced evacuating into reinforced bunkers under a safety protocol to prepare for emergency situations.
Some schools report insufficient bunker capacity and are urgently seeking funding to build more to ensure the safety of teachers and students.
The recent conflict had displaced thousands and disrupted education across several border provinces before the current cessation of fire. (TNA)
