Banglamung District Chief, Mongkol Thammakittikhun, appealed to the public Saturday for funds to assist people displaced from their homes by the armed border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia.

Mongkol said residents in the northeast province of Surin have been scared off by gun battles and artillery shelling and are now living in shelters.  Some private citizens have been injured and a few homes destroyed.

He said those interested in helping can deposit funds set up by the Interior Ministry at the Thai Military Bank.  Donations are being taken at Krung Thai’s Fuang Nakorn branch, account number 159-0-05733-3; at the Chonburi administrative offices or at the Damrongtham Center in Chonburi.
