BANGKOK, Thailand – Bangkok has been named the top city in the world for remote work, according to a global index featured in the New York Post. Scoring 69.98 out of 100, Thailand’s capital ranked highest for its combination of fast internet, affordability, and lifestyle appeal. The index, compiled by a group of experts, evaluated cities based on internet speed, cost of living, access to remote work visas, and other factors relevant to digital nomads.
The report identified Bangkok’s reliable digital infrastructure and low living expenses as key advantages. The city’s dynamic blend of tradition and modernity, seen in its temples, food culture, and street life, adds to its appeal for those seeking both productivity and cultural immersion.
Bucharest, Romania, ranked second with a score of 65.62, is recognised for its accessible remote work visa policies. The ranking highlights the growing popularity of remote work since the shift prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic, as more people seek flexible arrangements that allow them to live and work in new environments.
To meet this demand, the Thai government has expanded visa-free access to citizens from 93 countries and territories, allowing stays of up to 60 days. The administration has also introduced the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), designed for remote workers and visitors engaged in cultural or medical activities during extended stays in the country.
