BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for isolated heavy rain across several parts of Thailand on September 23, with rainfall expected over 80% of Bangkok and surrounding provinces, as well as the Eastern region. Residents in vulnerable areas should remain alert for flash floods, runoff, and landslides, especially near waterways, foothills, and low-lying locations.
Rain is forecast over 70% of the Central region, 60% of the Northeast and both coasts of the South, and 40% of the North. Isolated heavy rain is expected in parts of the lower Northeast, the Central region, the East, and the eastern coast of the South. The conditions are being driven by a monsoon trough across the Central and Eastern regions and a moderate southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, the South, and the Gulf of Thailand.
Rainfall is expected to increase from September 24 to 27, with isolated heavy to very heavy rain in several areas. The lower Northeast and East are expected to see increased rainfall first, followed by other parts of the country. The TMD advised the public to monitor official weather updates and use caution when traveling through flood-prone areas. Communities near waterways, foothills, and low-lying locations should remain alert, as accumulated rainfall could increase the risk of flooding, runoff, and landslides. (NNT)
