BANGKOK, Thailand – The Bang Khae District Office has issued a clarification following widespread social media speculation surrounding a Chinese-born man identified as “Chengzhao Wu,” whose Thai national ID card and household registration details recently circulated online.
The case drew public attention after internet users questioned how the individual obtained Thai citizenship and whether there had been any irregularities involving identity registration or misuse of Thailand’s 13-digit citizen identification system.
District Director Thianchai Wongsuwan confirmed on May 11 that the individual had legally received Thai citizenship through his father under official nationality verification procedures. Authorities stated that the individual’s name was formally added to household registration records at the Bang Khae District Office in 2008, when he was 13 years old, before later receiving a Thai national ID card in 2010 after turning 15.
According to officials, the citizenship approval process followed regulations under the Central Registration Bureau’s civil registration procedures and included verification by Immigration Bureau authorities, DNA testing conducted at a state hospital, and witness examinations.
The district office stressed that all documentation and procedures were reviewed under strict legal standards and insisted there was no evidence of identity fraud or unlawful acquisition of citizenship.
Officials further stated that staff members are continuously instructed to closely monitor all residence transfers, registration updates, and ID card applications to prevent misuse of legal rights or fraudulent identity claims.
