Thai Finance Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith welcomed his counterparts in Asia and the Pacific to the APEC Finance Ministers’ Meeting Retreat which gathered finance ministers from 21 member economies. The meeting was organized at Four Seasons Hotel. Participants exchanged experiences in the financial assistance for people affected by COVID-19 which had impacts on the public debts of many countries.

The meeting was also concerned about the global inflation which raised energy prices. Participants agreed that member economies should cooperate on trade and investment in Asia and the Pacific.

On the occasion, Thailand proposed member economies expand their cooperation on financial transactions. Such cooperation happens between Thailand and Singapore as Thailand’s PromptPay system is linked with the PayNow system of Singapore to facilitate Singaporean visitors’ spending in Thailand.

Today, the finance ministers attended the 29th APEC Finance Ministers’ Meeting at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center and were scheduled to announce their agreements. (TNA)
