CHUMPHON, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul presided over the opening of the “Wan Lai Bang Boet” festival last night (Apr 17) at Bang Boet Beach in Pathio district, Chumphon province, to promote tourism and support local economic activity.
The event aligns with government policy to expand cultural and traditional tourism while raising the profile of destinations in southern Thailand. Authorities view Bang Boet Beach and the surrounding areas, spanning Chumphon and Prachuap Khiri Khan, as having strong tourism potential and room for continued growth.
Festival activities focused on Songkran traditions and local culture, drawing large crowds of Thai and international visitors. The program included a road closure for water celebrations from midday to midnight, live performances by popular artists, and more than 100 stalls offering food and local products.
The festival supports Chumphon’s development as a tourism destination while generating income for residents. The event also contributes to efforts to balance economic growth with the preservation of cultural heritage. (NNT)
