
BANGKOK, Thailand – Bangkok is experiencing its first air pollution episode of the year, with fine particulate matter levels rising across the city, placing all districts in the orange air-quality category. Authorities said conditions have reached a level that could affect public health.
At 7 a.m., the citywide average PM2.5 concentration was measured at 55.8 micrograms per cubic meter, exceeding the national safety standard of 37.5 micrograms per cubic meter. Pollution levels were reported to be increasing, raising concerns for residents, especially vulnerable groups.
The highest PM2.5 readings were recorded in Don Mueang, Lat Krabang, and Chatuchak, each exceeding 66 micrograms per cubic meter. Other districts with elevated levels included Bangkok Noi, Prawet, Thawi Watthana, Bang Na, Bueng Kum, Min Buri, Sai Mai, Khlong Sam Wa, and Pathum Wan.
All districts were classified in the orange air-quality level, which indicates conditions that may begin to affect health. Residents were advised to monitor air quality updates and limit prolonged outdoor activities while pollution levels remain elevated. (NNT)
