CHIANG MAI, Thailand – The 2026 Chiang Mai Spartan Weekend & HH4HR officially kicked off on June 6 at Huay Tung Tao Reservoir in Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai, drawing more than 3,000 athletes from Thailand and 30 countries worldwide. Deputy Governor of Chiang Mai Boonlue Thammathoranurak presided over the opening ceremony and flag-off of competitors participating in the internationally recognized obstacle course racing event.
The Spartan Race is one of the world’s most popular obstacle-course races, challenging participants to combine endurance, strength, and determination as they overcome a series of obstacles on natural terrain. This year’s event, held from June 6–7, features four competition categories. On the opening day, athletes competed in the Super Elite race, covering 10 kilometers with 25 obstacles, and the Sprint Open race, with a 5-kilometer course and 20 obstacles.
Competitions on June 7 will include the Spartan Kids category, with distances ranging from 0.8 to 3.2 kilometers, and the Hurricane category, a four-hour endurance challenge. Organizers said the event aims to strengthen sports tourism and promote Chiang Mai as an international sporting destination. Safety measures have been implemented throughout the competition to ensure the well-being of athletes and participants. The 2026 edition marks Chiang Mai’s final year as host of the Spartan event after a successful three-year hosting period. The competition will pave the way for the larger-scale 2026 Spartan Super World Championship & Trifecta Weekend, scheduled for Chiang Rai later this year. (NNT)
