PSC golf from The Golf Club Sports Bar

Monday, Sept. 12, Green Valley – Stableford

1st Jack Bowman (13) 42pts

2nd Mick Beresford (11) 39pts

3rd Geoff Doody (19) 38pts

“Geordie Jack” Bowman hits a long, long ball and to watch him play would remind you of the great Ian Woosnam in both stature and power.  This length was used to his benefit as he took a first on our regular Green Valley Monday visit, shooting 42 Stableford points.  Jack worked in the circus a while back, but there was no clowning around on Monday, well played mate.

Stylish Micky B. took a second (39 would normally be enough for a win!) and Geoff Doody brought up the rear with his 38 points for a third place finish, beating out  J.T.B. on count back.

The course was in great shape still, even after the heavy rains all over the region.

Wednesday, Sept. 14, Bangpra – Stableford

1st Terry Wagner (20) 33pts

2nd Bill Gneiting (19) 32pts

3rd Don Lehmer (16) 29pts

An American 1-2-3 took top honors today as The Golf Club made its way to Bangpra.

It took Terry 17 holes to realize we weren’t playing from the blue tees, but that didn’t stop him from winning on the day.  It was smaller field than usual for Wednesday, but there were big laughs on a perfect day on a course in perfect condition.  All the comments were highly complementary on the condition of the course, especially after the torrential rain we had only 5 days before.

You never know what to expect from the monkey business on this course, but today was an easy one for the caddies as only 2 monkeys were to be seen.  For those who have never played Bangpra, it is known as “the monkey course” as there are three large tribes of the little primates on this course.  They are amazing to watch of course, but their natural curiosity will usually entice them to a golf buggy full of snacks, phones and keys so beware of your possessions when you play here!

We were off the white tees, Terry!  Our thanks to Nigel Flanagan for making plans for the golf today, and we hope to see more of Nige at the helm in the future.

Friday, Sept. 16, Crystal Bay (P.S.C. Monthly Tournament)

A fun day of golf with the PSC Monthly Tournament on the agenda for this Friday at Crystal Bay and the event turned out to be great.  Crystal Bay was in very good condition and the course will be on our schedule next month as it represents great value and a great track.  Congratulations to one of The Golf Club regulars, Paul Smith for his victory on the day.  (See the full report and results on page 44).

Our mates at Lewiinski’s put on a great spread for the presentation afterwards and our thanks go out to Colin (Mr. Hole in One!) and the crew for their fine efforts and hospitality.  Many hours of prep were turned in this week to set up the event, and our thanks also go to Joe Mooneyham, Bob Lindborg and Nigel Cannon.  Well done guys!

I guess we should also thank Jez “Lucky” Lees for providing liquid refreshment in the form of large bottles of Magners cider as he generously got the drinks in after winning the Lucky Draw pot!
