Sea safety barriers installed for Pattaya triathlon event

Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Chuthipong Changpuak, acting chief of the Disaster Prevention at Sea Department recently led a team to prepare the location for the Triathlon Super Series 2016, being held at Pattaya Beach near the Amari Pattaya hotel this coming weekend.  The team installed safety barriers for the swimming competition in an ‘L’ shape, approximately 80 meters wide and stretching 180 meters into the sea.

The Triathlon Super Series 2016 will kick off at 6 a.m. on Saturday May 21.  Beach vendors, boat operators and tourists are being asked to avoid the area while athletes practice swimming.  The event is expected to attract over 1,000 competitors in an international field.

The Triathlon Super Series includes a 1.5 kilometers swim, a 54km cycle ride and ends with a 13km run.  Prizes include cash rewards totaling over 500,000 baht.  Visit website www.thailandtrileague.com for more information and registration details.
