IPGC Golf from the Tara Court Golf Society

Sunday, July 10, Mannan Castle, Ireland

Sunday, July 10 we had our annual reunion which has being going on for a number of years now of a group of Irish people who go to Thailand and play golf there with the Tara Court Group.  As usual for our reunion in Ireland we play at Mannan Castle Golf Club which is a very beautiful course near Carrickmacross in Co. Monaghan.

We had members come from Donegal, which is in the very north of Ireland, Mayo which is in the west and Waterford in the south and also from Dublin and a few other counties so the whole country was well represented.

We were very lucky with the weather as this year unfortunately it has not been very good and the forecast for this day had been dreadful but we got round with just a few showers and had a very enjoyable day.  After the golf we all had a lovely meal in the restaurant to finish off what had been an excellent outing.

For some of the group this was their first time to play here and they were very impressed with the course.  If anyone is every going over to Ireland for a holiday or to play golf they should put it on their list as they won’t be disappointed and it is excellent value for money also.

Ger Lodge had traveled all the way from Waterford, which is around 250km from Mannan but as it turned out it was a very worthwhile journey as not only did he meet all his friends but he also played what was by far the best golf of the day and came out the winner with thirty seven points, which is an excellent score on this course.  Much more important for Ger was that he had been playing a match with one of our members who spends most of his time in Thailand but who was playing what was actually his home course when he lived in Ireland and Ger was also a clear winner in this match, winning 3 and 2 and getting a very important fiver back.  Well done Ger, roll on next year!

Alan Costello was playing his first ever game here and came second with a respectable thirty three points.  Paddy Kingham, who was last year’s winner and who is also a member here used his local knowledge to score thirty two points and take third this year.  Michael Healy came all the way from Killkenny and scored thirty points to come fourth and he also beat our local hero in matchplay to take another fiver off him.  Ritchie Martin, who came all the way from Tyrone lost out on the count back to Michael and had to settle for fifth place.

Note: The Tara Court Golf Group play every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, leaving O’Gara’s Bar and Restaurant in the Tara Court on Pratamnak Rd. around 10.00 a.m.  Sign up either in O’Gara and ring Joe on 089 249 1364.
