After clinching the top spot in the global rankings at the 2025 Singapore Open, 23-year-old Kunlavut Vitidsarn cements his legacy as Thailand’s first-ever men’s singles badminton world number one—crowned by years of relentless training, an Olympic silver, and an Asian title.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Kunlavut Vitidsarn has officially become the world’s number one men’s singles badminton player following his performance at the 2025 Singapore Open. The 23-year-old is the first Thai man to achieve the top ranking in this category, a feat earned through years of discipline, dedication, and consistent progress across every stage of his career.

Kunlavut began playing badminton as a child to help manage allergy symptoms. What started as a simple health remedy evolved into a life-defining pursuit. Training at the Banthongyord Badminton School under coach Patapol Ngernsrisuk, he developed his skills through relentless practice and a commitment to continuous improvement.

He gained international attention during his junior years, winning several major youth tournaments. These early achievements paved the way for his rise on the global circuit. Over time, his performances became more refined and reliable, earning him recognition as one of the sport’s rising stars.

In 2024, Kunlavut made history by winning a silver medal at the Paris Olympics, Thailand’s first in men’s singles badminton. The following year, he added the 2025 Asian Men’s Singles Championship to his list of achievements, confirming his place among the sport’s elite.
