Tuesday, March 3, Khao Kheow – Stableford

Well it looks like my thoughts that we were already on the cusp of the low season were misplaced, as on this day we were once more overfull.  Still, it was a happy group who set off to play Khao Kheow as Mark West had just reminded us all that we could use the PSC vouchers to play there.

Changed and onto the tee we found that we were to play the B & C nines – oh happy days!  With the course being busy there was a bit a hold up on the first tee but we were soon away and I noticed that the groups ahead all had carts and played off the white tees, which made them pretty fast and soon they disappeared ahead to leave us a clear path and doing our best to keep up.

The course was in fair condition but it was a bit wet and the grass a bit long, especially in the rough, and the ground was still spongy on the fairways in places.  Apart from the strong wind though, we had an excellent day out.

Round over it was a quick bite to eat in the excellent restaurant and back to Pattaya and BJ’s for the presentation.

In the A Flight, 0 to 19, the winner was Ken Hole with 43 points ahead of Richard Kubicki in second with 35 and then a count back on 33 points that saw AVD in third and John Deane just missing out.

In the B Flight it was a similar situation; the winner with 39 points was Mike O’Brien ahead of Tom McDowell in second with 34 and a countback on 32 points that saw Carole Kubicki take third and your scribe, Derek Brook, just miss out.

Friday, March 6, Plutaluang – Stableford

The ‘boys’ went off to play at the Navy course on Friday with a fair number of players, and after checking in they were told they were to play the East and South nines.  Not most of the players’ favourite 18 holes, but I have to admit it is my preferred 18 holes.

We were late off and found the course to be in reasonable condition and the weather was great also so all seemed fine with the world.  That was until we got half way and other groups started to force their way in.  To be fair, when the situation was explained to the Starter he came and sorted it out, but it is a problem that often rears its head here.

The delays meant that most of the players were late getting back BJ’s for the presentation but eventually we got it underway.

The winner in the A Flight, 0 to 16, was Landis Brooks with 36 points on count back over Bob Watson in second.  Bob will have to do better than a gross 75 if he wants to win.  In third was Tom Marshall with 35 points.

The winner in the B Flight was Brian Gabe with the best score of the day, 40 points, and he was four ahead of Andre Van Dyk in second with 36 while third place went to Kurt Ebentheuer with 34.  T.T.F.N.
