Sunday, March 27, Green Valley – Stableford

We were back for our regular Sunday game here at Green Valley to find the course in its usual excellent condition.  It was a nice cool day for golf and despite a short break for a shower of rain we still got around quickly.  Today, because the group was small, we had only a single flight.

Richie Hurley.

Richie Hurley hasn’t been out with us for a while but today he showed he hasn’t lost his touch and had the best score of the day to win with thirty seven points, despite playing off the lowest handicap in the group.  George Cullen, who has been playing very steady for the past while and lost a shot off his handicap still managed to play to his new one and came second with thirty six points.  Russell Gilroy took the third place with thirty two, beating Michael Williams into fourth on the count back.  Ted Murphy took the fifth and last spot with thirty one.  We had no ‘2’s today.

1st Richie Hurley (7) 37pts

2nd George Cullen (10) 36pts

3rd Russell Gilroy (17) 32pts

4th Michael Williams (13) 32pts

5th Ted Murphy (24) 31pts

Tuesday, March 29, Bangpra – Stableford

Today at Bangpra we found a course in vastly improved condition since the last time we played here when the fairways were badly burned up and rock hard.  They have obviously found water somewhere as today the fairways were very good with very few bare spots.  Off the fairways was a different story and still very bare and hard but as you are not supposed to be there in the first place no body complained too much.  As usual the greens were beautiful and although maybe not as fast as before they were still excellent.

We had four players on thirty five points which meant a lot of checking on the count backs as some of them went down to the last six holes.  Gerry Hannan was the one who won out and came first, with Phelim Moran taking second.  Sean Connolly, who had just arrived the previous day and has obviously settled in quickly to the golf, came third and Joe McArdle took fourth place.  Ted Murphy was playing his last game in Thailand for this year and went home on a good note as he took the fifth and last place on the podium with thirty one points.

Sean Connolly also got the only ‘2’ of the day to make it a good start to his holiday.

1st Gerry Hannan (12) 35pts

2nd Phelim Moran (10) 35pts

3rd Sean Connolly (12) 35pts

4th Joe McArdle (13) 35pts

5th Ted Murphy (24) 31pts

Thursday, March 31, Eastern Star – Stableford

I was in two minds whether to put in this report or not as the winners will probably not want to see their names in the paper with the scores they got!  However maybe it will encourage them to play a bit better next time.  I know this is a long difficult course but the scoring today was dreadful.

Gerry Hannan.

Eastern Star is excellent value for money these days as they are doing a very good promotion which includes a separate cart for fifteen hundred baht, very good value for a very good course and one which is in very good condition.

The winner with a poor thirty one points was Gerry Hannan and second with an even poorer thirty points was Frank McGowan.  Joe McArdle took the third place with a miserable twenty seven points while Phelim Moran got the only ‘2’ of the day.

1st Gerry Hannan (12) 31pts

2nd Frank McGowan (19) 30pts

3rd Joe McArdle (13) 27pts
