Another day dawned and golfers made their way to the Khao Kheow Country Club, to play this challenging course for the June, New Nordic PAGS tournament.  The day’s field of 82 players, which included 7 ladies, had an eye on the weather conditions, and with good reason too, as a few storms had been experienced over the previous few days.

We played the B & C combination, with the course being in reasonable condition after the recent storms, with a variety of the yellow & white tee boxes used. Greens were running smoothly, although the recent rain softened the fairways reducing much run. Organisors had implemented ‘lift, clean & place’ on the closely mown areas to avoid the dreaded mud ball on the soft fairways.

David Buchanan (H/cap 1) was the standout performer, shooting 74 off the stick to claim the Low Gross award, his maximum 2 technicals (although he did have another 2 returned to the Lucky Draw pool) and was beaten out on a countback for 3rd spot in the A Flt placings.

The Ladies winner was regular New Nordic PAGS participant, Jeeranan Duncan (18) with a spectacular equal day’s best of 43 points, to go with her NTP on B3.  Jeeranan just edged Chonnaphet Seekhum (13) into 2nd place on a countback to the last 6 holes 14/13, however Chonnaphet also won the approach on C6.

A flight for handicaps 0–13 was won on countback by Montri (10) with a back 9 of 20 points to Ken Price’s (11) 18, after both signed for 36 points, Ken also getting the long drive on B9.  Last month’s winner Mika Viljakainen (8) got the bronze medal position, edging out David Buchanan and Jari Laakonen, after all signed for 35 points.

B flight for handicaps 14-20 winner was John Fenwick (20) with 37 points, while the minor placings were a tightly contested affair with a countback to the last 3 holes required.  Werner Schwarz (14) got the nod with his 9 points on the last 3, over Joerg Mueller (14) after both signed for 36 points.

In the C flight for handicaps 21 & above, there was a clear win for Andy Richards (22) with 37 points, 2 ahead of Bryan Reid (23), while the low spot on the podium went to Todd Fox (32) with 34 points.

Honourable mentions to Steve Truelove with his 3 technical wins and Jonathan Davis with his 2 also.
