PSC golf from Café Kronborg

Monday, July 30, Bangpakong Riverside – Stableford

1st Walter Baechli (18) 40pts

2nd Hugh o Donnell (26) 39pts

3rd Phil Sheppard (19) 39pts

4th Takeshi Hakozaki (12) 37pts

5th Graham Buckingham (23) 33 points

We were off on time to the Bangpakong, arriving at the course just over 1 hour later.  No carts were allowed today because of heavy overnight rain, and one golfer who needed a cart to get around was left without a game.

We set off from the first tee on time under drizzly skies playing 2 holes and stopping for a 20 minute downpour which was the last significant rain for the day.  The course was very wet but was very playable as the scores would reflect.

Back in the clubhouse after 4 hours and 40 minutes of slogging around we said “sayanora” to Takeshi Hakozaki who was going back to Japan for the summer holidays for 3 weeks.

Considering the conditions the scores were quite good with Walter Baechli coming in with a stupendous 40 points for the win.  Hugh O’Donnell came second with 24 points on the back nine on a count back over Phil Sheppard in third, both on 39 points.  Takeshi Hakozaki took fourth with 37 and Graham Buckingham fifth on a count back from Mike Winfield.

Wednesday, August 1, Bangpra – Stableford

1st Walter Baechli (18) 34pts

2nd Brian Noguer (21) 30pts

3rd Dave Richardson (25) 30pts

4th Phil Sheppard (19) 30pts

Today it was Bangpra as the venue with an on time departure and a 40 minute transit from the Kronborg.  The course was fully booked but we got off the first tee on time under sunny skies with a very good pace of play.  The layout was in its usual very good condition with quick greens.

Back in the clubhouse after a quick round of 4 hours and 20 minutes we welcomed new Pattaya resident Steve Newton from the USA.

After play was finished the course was found to have had the better of the contest but Walter Baechli still managed to notch his second victory of the week, this time with 34 points, while Brian Noguer took second on a count back from Dave Richardson (third) and Phil Sheppard in fourth, all on 30 points.

Monday, August 6, Crystal Bay – Stableford

1st Hugh O’Donnell (25) 38pts

2nd Dave Richardson (26) 33pts

3rd Mike Winfield (21) 31pts

4th Phil Sheppard (19) 31pts

It was down Sukumvit on time to the Crystal Bay Country Club, arriving 47 minutes later.  After a swift check-in we teed off on the B1 hole 28 minutes ahead of schedule under overcast skies and in very muggy conditions.

The course on the day was quite playable but the greens-keeper needs to do a lot of repairs on the the physical things that are part of the course, like drain covers that need replacing, and are a safety concern, so watch your step here.

After a round of 4 hours we said goodbye in the clubhouse to Phil Sheppard who is going back ‘Aussie’.

Probably the oldest golfer in regular competitions around Pattaya, Hugh O’Donnell, was the winner with a runaway 38 points.  Dave Richardson took second on 33 points, and Mike Winfield came third on a count back over Phil Sheppard.

Thursday, August 9, Treasure Hill – Stableford

1st Brian Noguer (23) 35pts

2nd Wayne Koch (25) 32pts

3rd Dave Richardson (26) 31pts

4th Hugh O’Donnell (25) 29pts

It was off to Treasure Hill on Thursday, 50 minutes up the 331, and we were checked in and off the first tee 30 minutes early under overcast skies and with a nice breeze.  The course was in fine condition with a few areas dug up near the greens to add new drainage, always little projects to improve the course, well done to the management.

The course is offering a special on Friday’s until 28 September of green fee, caddy fee and cart for 990 baht, subject to cart availability.

Back in the clubhouse after a quick round of 3 hours and 55 minutes it was evident the course had won again with Brian Noguer winning among the rest of us with 35 points ahead of Wayne Koch in second, Dave Richardson third and Hugh O’Donnell in fourth.
