PHUKET, Thailand – The 23rd Annual General Conference of the Asia–Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) is set to begin today (Aug 19) in Phuket province, running through August 21 under the theme “The Power of Media: Building People, Building Peace, Towards a Sustainable Society.”
The opening session will begin with a meeting of the Strategic Planning Team, which reviewed the draft AIBD Strategic Plan 2025–2029. Discussions are scheduled to cover ways to strengthen the role of media across the Asia–Pacific region, with delegates considering new governance structures to ensure the industry remains resilient and adaptable to changing global trends.
The conference is reviewing several key proposals, including the creation of three new Steering Committees. One would address the use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to enhance media operations. Another would concentrate on producing high-quality content that generates revenue and meets the needs of digital audiences. The third would discuss the development of financial and environmental frameworks to secure the long-term stability of media organizations.
Thailand is expected to play a leading role in these committees, with nominations already submitted for personnel from the Public Relations Department (PRD). Their involvement would place Thai professionals at the center of discussions on technology, content, and sustainability, enhancing the country’s growing influence in shaping the future of media in the Asia–Pacific region.
The conference will continue with the Executive Board meeting, chaired by PRD Director-General Sudruetai Lertkasem, to review and adopt recommendations from the Strategic Planning Team. (NNT)
