NONG KHAI, Thailand – A heart-stopping moment unfolded on a busy highway in northeastern Thailand when a three-year-old child was spotted riding a tricycle alone in the middle of a major road, narrowly avoiding what could have been a tragic accident.

The incident occurred around 2:00 PM on April 20 along the Nong Khai–Phon Phisai road, a main route known for fast-moving traffic. The dramatic moment was captured on dashcam by a local driver.

According to the driver, she was traveling from Nong Khai city toward Phon Phisai at approximately 70 km/h when she noticed a small child—believed to be around three years old—riding a tricycle in circles in the middle of the road near Ban Hua Hat in Ban Duea subdistrict.

Realizing the danger, she immediately slowed down, blasted her horn continuously, and signaled to vehicles behind her by flashing lights. Drivers following her also reacted quickly, honking and slowing down to prevent a collision.

Moments later, two women—reportedly local roadside vendors—ran from the side of the road and rushed to pull the child to safety. Witnesses said the situation could have ended in tragedy if any vehicle had been traveling faster or failed to notice the child in time.

The driver later urged parents to be more vigilant, warning that such roads are typically busy with fast-moving traffic and extremely dangerous for unsupervised children.

Following the viral clip, locals commented that the child’s home is located near the Mekong River, approximately 300 meters from the highway. The women who rescued the child were not the parents, but nearby vendors and residents who responded after hearing unusual, prolonged car horns.
