Royal Thai Navy confirms that strict border closure measures remain in place along the Chanthaburi frontier, despite online rumors claiming checkpoints had reopened.

PATTAYA, Thailand – The Royal Thai Navy has denied online rumors claiming that border checkpoints in Chanthaburi have been reopened, insisting that strict closure measures remain fully in effect along the border. Speaking at Navy headquarters on May 25, Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiphan, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Navy, said social media reports suggesting checkpoints had reopened had created public misunderstanding. He stressed that authorities continue to enforce a “full border closure” policy in line with national security directives, while maintaining tight control over border areas. According to the Navy, limited cross-border movement currently permitted in some cases applies only to specific missions involving law enforcement, national security, or humanitarian operations. These include the repatriation of foreign nationals, the return of Thai citizens, and official government procedures.

Officials emphasized that every case is subject to strict screening, monitoring, and security checks.

The Navy also warned that authorities continue to face ongoing attempts at illegal border crossings, transnational criminal activity, and other unlawful operations in border regions. Security agencies, including naval forces, are continuing patrols, surveillance, and enforcement operations to protect national sovereignty and public safety. The Royal Thai Navy urged the public to rely only on official sources for information and to exercise caution before sharing unverified social media content that could create confusion.
