PATTAYA, Thailand – Thailand’s Thai Meteorological Department has warned that summer storms will affect much of the country’s upper regions between February 23–25, bringing thunderstorms, strong winds, lightning, and isolated hail. While Pattaya is not expected to bear the brunt of the system, officials caution that changing conditions could still disrupt beach activities and marine travel.

In its latest 24-hour forecast, the department said eastern Thailand — including Chonburi province, home to Pattaya — may see scattered thunderstorms over about 10 percent of the area. Daytime temperatures will remain hot, ranging from 33–37°C, with moderate to occasionally strong northeast winds.

The unsettled weather is being driven by shifting wind patterns over upper Thailand, while warmer air continues to build across the region. Authorities advise residents and visitors to take precautions against sudden storms, particularly during outdoor activities.

For Pattaya and nearby coastal areas, sea conditions remain relatively manageable, with waves around 1 meter near shore and up to 1–2 meters farther offshore. However, waves could exceed 2 meters during thunderstorms. Small boats and recreational operators in the Gulf of Thailand are urged to navigate with caution and avoid stormy areas.

Beyond storms, air quality remains a concern. The Meteorological Department noted moderate dust and haze accumulation across northern, central, eastern Thailand, including Bangkok and surrounding provinces, due to weak air circulation.

Health officials recommend that people in upper Thailand take extra care as temperatures fluctuate and storms arrive abruptly — advice particularly relevant for tourists unaccustomed to Thailand’s fast-changing late-season weather.

Despite the forecast, Pattaya’s beaches remain active, with many visitors choosing to enjoy the coastline while keeping an eye on the skies.
