CHONBURI, Thailand – Three people were injured after a trailer truck lost control while descending the Nong Mai Daeng overpass in Chonburi, approximately 65 kilometers north of Pattaya, and overturned onto an electric vehicle on August 1. The dramatic crash, captured on a dashboard camera, left the car crushed to nearly half its height.
At the scene, officers found the overturned trailer lying across the parallel road after the driver reportedly lost control while descending the bridge. The trailer landed directly on top of a green Deepal electric vehicle travelling below, causing catastrophic damage to the passenger side.
Two women travelling in the EV, identified as Jariya, 51, and Laphatsalan, 34, suffered back and body injuries. The trailer driver was also injured. All three were taken to hospital for treatment.
Dashcam footage from a vehicle travelling behind captured the terrifying sequence, showing the trailer beginning to sway while coming down the overpass before suddenly overturning. Within seconds, the trailer crashed onto the adjacent EV, leaving the occupants with little chance to react.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash, including whether mechanical failure, excessive speed or other factors contributed to the trailer losing control.
