SURAT THANI, Thailand – Thailand’s police are expanding a nationwide “cyber vaccine” campaign by training officers to become cyber safety role models who can help communities defend themselves against rising online crime. On August 3, Police Lieutenant General Trairong Piwpan, Deputy Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police, Deputy Director of the Royal Thai Police Cyber Crime Suppression Center and police spokesperson, delivered a special lecture titled “Cyber Vaccine Building Public Immunity Through Role Model Teachers” to 242 officers participating in the second Cyber Role Model Teacher training programme.
The training was held at the Provincial Police Region 8 Training Centre in Surat Thani and included officers from police stations across all provinces under Provincial Police Region 8. Police Lieutenant General Trairong said online crime has become a new form of security threat, causing massive financial losses worldwide and affecting people from all professions in Thailand. Criminals often use psychological tactics by exploiting fear, greed, love, sympathy and urgency to manipulate victims into making costly mistakes.
He said the role of Cyber Role Model Teachers is to bring preventive knowledge directly to communities, helping people recognize scams and avoid common traps. Officers will promote simple but important safety measures, including not clicking suspicious links, not installing applications from unknown sources, not believing urgent demands from strangers, not transferring money without verification and never sharing one-time passwords (OTP).
Police Lieutenant General Trairong said the goal is for each trained officer to share cyber safety knowledge with at least 100 families in their area, creating a wider network of protection against online fraud. The initiative aims to shift cybercrime prevention from a reactive response after victims lose money to a proactive approach that builds public awareness and digital safety habits before crimes occur.
