PHUKET, Thailand – A 57-year-old Philippine tourist was killed after a truck crashed into his motorcycle from behind while he had stopped to let pedestrians cross a zebra crossing in Thalang district on October 7. The crash happened at about 5 p.m. on Thepkrasattri Road, inbound, in front of a Shell service station. Police found the tourist lying dead beside his damaged Honda Click 125 motorcycle. He was still wearing a crash helmet.
Initial investigation found that the tourist had been riding along the road before stopping at the crossing to allow pedestrians to pass. A truck travelling behind him apparently failed to stop in time and slammed into the motorcycle. The impact killed the tourist at the scene. After the crash, the truck driver left the vehicle by the roadside and fled. Police are examining the abandoned truck and other evidence while searching for the driver. Officers are continuing the investigation and will take legal action against the driver once located.
