BANGKOK, Thailand – The Airport Rail Link has resumed normal operations after officials resolved a technical issue that disrupted train movements at the Khlong Tan maintenance depot. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT), SRT Electrified Train Co., Ltd., and Asia Era One Co., Ltd. announced that services returned to normal at 10:07 p.m. on July 22, following inspections and repairs to the track switching system inside the depot. The disruption was caused by a train obstructing the entry and exit route of the Airport Rail Link system. After the issue was cleared, services resumed normally on the Phaya Thai–Suvarnabhumi Airport route.
SRT Governor Anan Phonimdaeng said the railway agency received instructions from the Deputy Transport Minister to coordinate with all relevant agencies and restore service as quickly as possible.
Throughout the day, railway specialists from both government and private sectors worked together to resolve the problem. Officials said a detailed technical investigation is still underway to determine the exact cause of the incident. Asia Era One said the track switch equipment was inspected and repaired according to safety standards under SRT supervision. The company also plans to replace the affected switch equipment at the maintenance depot and review improvements to high-risk areas.
The operator said it will also strengthen backup operating plans to prevent similar disruptions in the future and maintain passenger confidence in Airport Rail Link services. Airport Rail Link operates daily from 5:30 a.m. to midnight, with trains running between Phaya Thai Station and Suvarnabhumi Airport Station. Six trains are available under the regular operating plan, with two additional trains prepared during peak periods when passenger demand increases. (TNA)
