PATTAYA, Thailand – Chonburi authorities inspected a restaurant in Pattaya on Sept 4 following a complaint filed through the provincial Damrongtham Centre alleging that foreign workers were employed at the establishment. The inspection took place at about 8 p.m. at El Gaucho Again Pattaya in Naklua, Banglamung district, under the direction of Chonburi Governor Naris Niramaiwong.
Banglamung officials, district security volunteers and representatives from several government agencies took part in the operation. Officials initially charged the restaurant’s Slovak manager with operating a food service establishment covering more than 200 square meters without the required permit under Thailand’s Public Health Act B.E. 2535. Six Myanmar workers were also charged with working outside the occupations permitted under their work authorizations.
Officials said all six were authorized to work as laborers. However, four were found working as chefs and two as bartenders, according to the inspection team. The detained individuals were taken to Banglamung District Office for documentation before being handed over to investigators at Pattaya City Police Station for further legal proceedings.
The inspection involved officials from the Chonburi Provincial Defense Office, Banglamung Public Health Office, Chonburi Immigration, Pattaya City Public Health Office, Chonburi Provincial Labor Office, Chonburi Provincial Employment Office and Internal Security Operations Command representatives. The operation followed a complaint submitted by a member of the public through the provincial Damrongtham Centre, highlighting the authorities’ continued response to complaints concerning businesses and employment practices in Pattaya.
