PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya police have arrested two men accused of breaking into a woman’s room and stealing gold, designer handbags, cash and a safe worth more than 1 million baht. The suspects, aged 42 and 33, were arrested at a room in South Pattaya, late Wednesday night. Police recovered several items allegedly linked to the burglary, including five-baht-weight gold bracelets, a two-baht gold necklace, gold rings, cash, three designer handbags and a safe.
The investigation began after a woman from Phichit province reported on Sept. 1 that her room No. 208 had been broken into. She told police that three designer handbags, 11 baht-weight of gold and 100,000 baht in cash had been stolen, with total losses estimated at more than 1 million baht. Pattaya police investigators examined CCTV footage and traced the suspects’ movements before identifying the pair. Investigators learned that they had allegedly used a friend’s identification card to rent a room in the South Pattaya area. Police then moved in and arrested the suspects, recovering a large portion of the allegedly stolen property.
Investigators said some of the stolen gold had already been sold at a gold shop. One suspect allegedly used part of the proceeds to buy a gold necklace for himself, while another gold ring was reportedly intended as a gift for his girlfriend. During questioning, both suspects allegedly confessed to the burglary. Police said one man entered through the rear of the victim’s room after forcing open the door, while the other waited outside on a rented motorcycle.
The suspects allegedly told investigators that they spent some of the stolen cash on entertainment, personal expenses and treating women. Police have charged the two men with nighttime burglary and transferred them, together with the recovered evidence, to investigators at Pattaya City Police Station for further legal proceedings.
