Pattaya engulfed by torrential rain as storm sweeps through

PATTAYA, Thailand – Heavy rainfall in Pattaya, Chonburi province, has caused widespread flooding across major roads, resulting in severe traffic congestion, slow-moving vehicles, and partial road closures in several key areas of the city. From early morning on July 4, continuous heavy rain led to water accumulation in multiple locations, disrupting traffic flow and prompting local authorities to deploy emergency traffic management measures. Pattaya municipal officers, police, and special affairs officials were mobilized to assist motorists and manage traffic in affected zones, while advising the public to avoid flooded routes. Along Sukhumvit Road in front of Pattaya Beach and Jomtien areas, floodwater caused significant slowdowns. Although both small and large vehicles were still able to pass, municipal officers were seen wading through floodwater to assist drivers and ease congestion.

On Sukhumvit Road near South Pattaya intersection heading toward Chonburi, traffic was reduced to a single lane, resulting in heavy congestion throughout the area. At South Pattaya intersection near the Highways Office, water levels reached approximately knee height. Similarly, the railway crossing behind Wat Tham Samakkhi on the Sattahip-bound side saw long vehicle queues after the road became impassable. Further flooding was reported at multiple points including Soi Thepprasit 7 near the Kungten intersection and the Moom Aroi intersection on Pattaya Third Road, where traffic police from Pattaya City Police Station worked alongside municipal officers to control traffic and temporarily close sections of road where vehicles could not pass.

Authorities urged residents and visitors to avoid affected routes, follow official traffic updates, and comply with instructions from officers on site to ensure safety during ongoing flood conditions.

The Thai Meteorological Department has warned that Tropical Storm “Maysak” and associated monsoon conditions will continue to affect Thailand, bringing increased rainfall and unstable weather across the country through July 6, with Pattaya and surrounding areas expected to remain at risk of further heavy rain and localized flooding.

Authorities urged motorists to avoid affected routes as police and city officials worked to manage traffic and assist commuters across flooded streets.
