PATTAYA, Thailand – Residents, business operators and local leaders in Pattaya have come together to stage a “SAVE PATTAYA” campaign at Bali Hai Pier on Friday July 3, expressing opposition to recent media portrayals that they say damage the city’s international reputation. The gathering took place at the blue activity ground at Bali Hai Pier, with participants from all sectors including local entrepreneurs, political figures, public transport operators, and members of civil society joining in a show of unity to defend the city’s image as a global tourism destination. Organizers said the campaign was held in response to a recent television program that they believe contained statements or narratives that could negatively affect Pattaya’s reputation. They stressed that such portrayals risk creating misunderstandings about the city.
During the event, participants called for media figure Sirote Klampaiboon and other program presenters involved to issue an apology to the people of Pattaya, saying accountability is necessary for content that may have impacted the city’s image. Speakers at the rally reiterated that Pattaya should not be labeled a “mafia city” and rejected claims suggesting organized crime dominance. They also emphasized that local politics in Pattaya has not been characterized by violence and that electoral processes in the city have proceeded peacefully in past elections. They urged the public and media to rely on factual information and avoid generalizations that could harm the city’s reputation or misrepresent its social and tourism environment. The event proceeded peacefully throughout, with officers from Pattaya City Police Station deployed to ensure order and assist with crowd management. Authorities reported no incidents, and the rally concluded smoothly in accordance with the law.
