PATTAYA, Thailand – Sunshine brings relief to Pattaya residents cleaning up after days of heavy rain and flooding, with people making the most of the dry weather to begin putting their homes and businesses back in order. Across the city, residents are washing clothes, drying furniture and household items, cleaning front yards and clearing mud and debris left behind by floodwater. Others are heading to the beaches for some fresh air after being confined by the difficult conditions.
The city is also going full speed with cleanup operations, clearing roads, drainage channels and other public areas to remove rubbish and sediment and help the city recover. For many residents, the cleanup is a difficult reminder of the damage caused by the flooding. Cars and household belongings have been soaked, with some vehicles requiring major cleaning after floodwater entered their interiors. Not everyone affected has insurance to cover flood-related damage, leaving families and individuals to shoulder much of the cost themselves.
One example is a sedan undergoing an extensive clean-up, with its seats, carpets and interior fittings removed so they can be washed and dried before the vehicle is put back together. With sunshine finally returning, Pattaya residents are using every dry hour to clean, repair and dry their belongings, while the city works to restore roads, drainage systems and public spaces.
