PATTAYA, Thailand – Authorities in Pattaya have completed a major drainage improvement project aimed at solving chronic flooding along Thepprasit Soi 9 and nearby areas, boosting confidence ahead of the 2026 rainy season.
Deputy Mayor Manot Nongyai, accompanied by senior city officials, inspected the site and formally received the completed drainage system connecting Thepprasit Soi 9 to Jomtien Beach. The inspection focused on ensuring the system is fully operational before seasonal rains arrive.
The project was launched to address long-standing flooding problems, particularly in low-lying areas behind the go-kart zone on Thepprasit Soi 9, which previously experienced severe water accumulation during heavy rainfall. To resolve this, the city commissioned the installation of large drainage pipes linking Thepprasit Soi 9 to Jomtien Second Road, creating a more efficient water discharge route.
A key component of the system is a large underground water collection chamber (M139), measuring 6.60 by 3.40 meters and at least 5.85 meters deep, constructed near Nong Phong intersection to handle runoff during heavy downpours.

The project began in 2022 following several years of survey and design work. However, construction faced delays of nearly a year due to unexpected soft soil conditions and changes in ground structure, which required redesign and engineering adjustments. Work resumed and was completed in early 2026, with both road surfaces and drainage infrastructure now fully operational and open to traffic.
City officials said initial testing during rainfall shows the system performs effectively, significantly improving water drainage and reducing the risk of flooding in the area.
Manot expressed confidence that the project will provide a long-term solution, ensuring that residents and commuters using Thepprasit Soi 9 and Jomtien Second Road will no longer face recurring flood issues. Authorities believe the improvements will help prevent major flooding incidents during the upcoming rainy season, offering greater safety and convenience for the public.
